Lodging and Meals

Workshop participants have a variety of lodging alternatives from which to choose. However, we imagine most attendees will prefer to reside on campus.

On campus housing
Conferees will be staying in the newly constructed College Nine apartments. Situated amongst the redwoods, the apartments are conveniently located a short walk from the site of the talks, and are in the same building complex as the meals, opening mixer, poster session, and banquet. Housing questions should be directed to Nancy Moore (831-459-5092).

For summer conferences, a typical apartment is configured to house four people in some combination of single and double bedrooms, with a shared bathroom. There will be a working refrigerator, but the stove will be nonfunctional (for insurance reasons). Each apartment will have fresh towels and linens on arrival (but no daily maid service). Single bedrooms are $99 per person per night, and double bedrooms are $83 per person per night. On campus attendees are expected to stay on campus Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Additional nights may be added before or afterwards. These costs include three meals per day, starting with dinner on the night of check-in and ending with lunch on the day of check-out. The cost of the banquet on Saturday evening ($30/person) is not included.

If you are attending with another person who is not participating in the conference (such as a significant other), you may sign up to use a double for both of you at $166 per night. Meals for both people are included.

Local hotels
If you choose to stay at a local hotel, you will be responsible for making your reservation, as well as arranging transportation to and from campus. You will also need to pre-pay for any meals that you plan to eat on campus during the conference (especially for the catered lunches and the banquet; the other meals are more flexible and you could pay in cash but it might be slightly more expensive). If you drive, you will need a parking permit for Friday. Some local hotels are

Please make your reservations early, as summer is the peak tourist season in Santa Cruz. For more information on tourism in Santa Cruz, visit the Santa Cruz County homepage and the City of Santa Cruz homepage.

Meals for local participants
Local participants who do not require lodging will still need to pre-purchase all meals they wish to eat on campus, so that we can arrange to have enough food for everyone (particularly for lunch, which will be catered). If parking is required, a permit will need to be purchased for Friday. Free parking should be available on Saturday.
